OUTREACH PROGRAMS
LONJEDZANI
Initiated in 2004, this is a home-based program dedicated especially to girls who live with their families in the area around Mthunzi. It has a matron who guarantees their schooling and provides healthcare and psychological support, also with the assistance of Mthunzi staff. Other support programs also help boys and girls outside Mthunzi to reintegrate with their families of Origin. In fact, reintegration of every child with his family is the priority for Mthunzi Social workers.
MTHUNZI MUFANA
Initiated in 2021, is a family home in Garden Compound that has been transformed into a daycare and serves as a first approach to the children of that area and from Lusaka town center. Here dozens of children gather every day under the supervision of a social workers and local volunteers who guarantee their safety, counsel them and encourage them to go back to school. Families are supported to buy uniforms and school material. In emergency Mthunzi Mufana becomes a night shelter for very vulnerable children and the first step before being received in Mthunzi.
MTHUNZI CULTURAL AND ACROBATIC
is composed of about 20 young people from 10 to 22 years of age and perform traditional dances and acrobatics. Upon invitation they take part in events in Lusaka and have toured South Africa, Italy and Scotland.
LUBUTO MTHUNZI LIBRARY
It is a modern library operating in two structures built in traditional Zambian style next to Mthunzi residence. There is also an open arena which can accommodate up to 300 people. Computers loaded with special software for children complete the library.
The Lubuto Mthunzi Library offers a splendid collection of books for children and youth, and organizes reading workshops, sessions on story-telling, ecology, theater, traditional dances and art. Literacy courses are offered to adults. The library is opened to all the people of the area. The premises were built in 2017 by Lubuto Libraries with the support of USAID
SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
After leaving Mthunzi and Lonjedzani boys and girls are assisted to join vocational courses, while the most academically gifted are encouraged and sponsored to pursue studies at college and university level. At any given time six or more Koinonia sponsored youth are attending tertiary courses.
